We are filming a live performance of John Mayall's 80th Anniversary Tour on the east coast of the US. This is a behind the scenes photo on the set at Don Odell's "Legends" TV studio after testing my amp.
Don's inspiration for the show is based on the BBC classic The Old Grey Whistle Test and focuses on musicianship and the music. According to Don, "What I'm trying to capture here is the way music used to be - straightforward and raw footage - it's what music's all about."
They have previously recorded shows with Walter Trout, Guitar Shorty, Rick Derringer, and Royal Southern Brotherhood. Special thanks to Don and his excellent crew who made the experience one to remember. Stay tuned for more information on the air date.
I'm currently touring the east coast of the US with John Mayall and the rest of the band. I thought I'd share a video from those shows, for those of you unable to make it.
This is a live performance of the title track of the album A Hard Road, which originally featured Peter Green on guitar at his finest.
Oh, for a "behind the scenes" scoop... the amp provided by the venue was completely blown, but the show must go on, no matter what. This is an experience that all live musicians must learn to overcome. Luckily, it doesn't happen too often.
As much as I love new (or new old) guitars, I might love watching the passion for music pass from one generation to the next even more. Having jammed and bonded with my own son, it just warms my heart to see it.
So when a fan sent me the below video, of his 11 year old son playing along to "Muddy Water Blues" from my album, Voodoo Moon, it blew me away in the best way possible.
I can name some amazingly talented professional drummers who haven't mastered the Texas Shuffle the way this kid has. Karaoke for drums never sounded so good! Frank, thanks for sending it to me. John, 'the Stickman', keep up the great work!
